OVERSTIMULATION HOODIE

I have spent a lot of my life around people who suffer from overstimulation. Recently, my youngest brother has been having a lot of issues with overstimulation which often results in fights both and home and in school. This led me to look for a solution to counteract overstimulation without being very "obvious." I decided to create a hoodie that looked stylish while also working to reduce sensory input to hopefully diminish the frequency or intensity of overstimulation attacks, or reduce the time that my brother was in the overstimulated state of mind.

01

Reaserch

The first step in my project was researching overstimulation so I could understand how to best prevent/calm it. I wanted my design to be fueled by research and science rather than just guessing what would be helpful. (My findings would be in the infographic on the left if wix let me add more pics, that is also why there is so much space, for the infographic)

02

Mood/Look Board

My next step was to create a collage that encapsulated the basic look and design elements I wanted my hoodie to include. This process helped guide what I wanted the hoodie to look like and what I wanted it to include. Through this process, It became very obvious that a detachable weighted vest was a must and would be very beneficial.

03

Design Process

After creating my mood board I had a clearer idea of what I wanted to include in my actual design. I made a list of the things I absolutly needed and that came down to a weighted vest and sleeve cuffs, sound-reducing hood that tightened to block out light, and some sort of fidget aspect. These elements of my hoodie would each work to target and reduce spesific forms of sensory input. (sketches would be right next to this if wix allowed)
