Fashion Thoughts Journal

Fashion Thoughts Journals are drawings of other designers' designs that I found inspirational. By looking at other designs I can expand how I view fashion and see uses of elements of fashion that I would have never thought of myself. My class and I do one every Monday and it helps me learn about all of the possibilities that fashion holds and gives me a whole other level of understanding of how fashion can be used and displayed.

Designer: Georges Hobeika

The way this outfit drapes down so elegantly is beautiful, the shape combined with the flowers makes the piece look like it resembles a cherry blossom tree. The designer manages to make a more loose-fitting piece look so formal and graceful in a way I haven’t seen before.

Designer: Dolce & Gabbana

Firstly, I think that placing the corset part of the dress to the front rather than the back adds a very interesting element to the piece. I don’t often see the laces of a corset as the main component or center piece and I think it creates an interesting texture. I also enjoy how the dress is very gothic but then the designer mixes in a business suit shirt. The two styles are completely opposite but complement each other well.

Designer: Alexander McQueen

I love the usage of the big chunky belt to add some “body” to this outfit. I have never seen such a big belt, I think it’s really interesting how it is the statement piece, I haven’t looked at a lot of pieces where the belt is the main attraction and I think it’s a really cool concept.

Designer: Ulyana Sergeenko

I love the layering in this piece, how the black pants look so stiff and sinch in the shirt. I also enjoy the seemingly random a-symmetric designs on the sleeves and other parents of the shirt.

Designer: Pona Matoshi

I really like how almost all of this dress is very tight and short but then it has this waterfall of fabric in the back (the train). I also find the mixing of patterns to be an interesting subtle addition to the outfit.
